S. Willis Houghton, 98 of State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Thursday morning February 23, 2012 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.

Born in Medway, NY, on June 29, 1913, he was the son of the late Stephen H and Florence Ann Lillis Houghton.

Willis was a graduate of Schenectady High School, Class of 1932.

Willis was an Arc and Mig assembly welder, reading from Blue Prints, part of which was contracted by the United States Navy for General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY.

He was an honorably discharged United States Air Force Veteran, stationed at Mitchell Field, Long Island from 1932 to 1934

Willis was a member of the Saving Grace Baptist Church in Fonda, NY.

His first wife, Edna Lindstead Houghton predeceased him on December 17, 1996. Rena M. Ahnert Houghton to whom he married on July 22, 1967, predeceased Willis on July 26, 2010. He is survived by one son, Carroll W. Houghton of Saratoga Springs, NY; one daughter, Dale F. Roach (Allen) of Lowville, NY, two stepsons, Carl Ahnert (lynne) of Canastota, NY and Gerald Ahnert (Betsy)of Syracuse, NY, four grandchildren, David (Ann) Ahnert, Teresa Follett, Christopher (Melissa) Houghton and Jason (Lynn) Houghton three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Willis was also predeceased by one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 o’clock at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park and Garden in Schenectady, NY.

Calling hours will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 prior to the funeral service at the Riley Mortuary.

Ken grew up in Chester, NY and received his education in the Washingtonville NY School System..

He was last employed by Legeree Restoration in Schenectady, NY.

Ken is survived by his wife, Darlene Mulhearnmann at home, to whom he married on August 19, 2000, his children, Noah Mulhearnmann of Amsterdam, NY; Kenneth Mann Jr of Bloomingburg, NY, Joshua Mulhearn – Carrion of Reno, NV; Jesslynn Mulhearn – Purcell of Scotia, NY, Sarahlyn Mulhearn-Purcell of Altamont, NY and Benjamin Mulhearn – Purcell of Amsterdam, NY, one sister, Ina Wortman of Florida, NY, eight grandchildren, His father and mother-in-law, Harry and Sylvia Mulhearn. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive

Ken was predeceased by a daughter, Moriahlyne Mulhearnmann.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:00 o’clock at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 to 6 at the Riley Mortuary.

Cremation will follow at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady, NY.

Wilma N. Petrosino, 82, of Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Sunday morning March 25, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam with her loving family by her side.

Born in Amsterdam, NY, on October 8, 1929, she was a daughter of the late William and Alice Flannagan Amberger.

Wilma was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam and Albany Business College in Albany,
Wilma was employed as a secretary at Boss-Linco Lines of Amsterdam and many years at the Amsterdam Recorder
.
Wilma was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

She is survived by her loving husband, of sixty-one years, Daniel J. Petrosino to whom she was married to on June 30, 1951. Her children, Donna (Larry) Borwhat of Fort Johnson, NY; Dale A. Petrosino of Amsterdam, NY; Daniel J. Petrosino (Patti) of Amsterdam, NY and Diane Bellinger of Ballston Lake, NY; One sister, Inez Sears of Winter Haven, FL. Six grandchildren, Danielle Bach (Steve), Jay Borwhat (Jessica), Ashli Kerr (Bryan), John Daniel Kerr, Jessica MacMeekin (Trevor) and C.J. Bellinger. Five great grandchildren, Tyler and Kaylee Borwhat, Collin, Aidan and Alexandra Wilma Kerr, two devoted nieces, Jo-Ann Vidulich and Vicki Sollecito, other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Wilma loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was lovingly known as Bubba to her family and friends.

Wilma was predeceased by five sisters, Jean Ripple, Therese Vidulich, Veronica Vidulich, Katherine Amberger and Margaret Grandchamp.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’ Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson. NY

Arlene Ryba, 68, of State Highway 30 Amsterdam, NY; passed away Friday afternoon March 30, 2012 at Albany Medical Center.

Born in Amsterdam, NY; on July 14, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Dorothy E Quant Ryba.

Arlene received her education in the Amsterdam school system

Arlene loved horses and for many years worked as a handler and trainer of thoroughbreds at Sanford Stud Farm in Amsterdam. She also worked at many bars, restaurants and clubs including The Barge, The Village Tavern, Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course, Kiddo’s Tavern, Bigelow Weavers and the Irish American Club. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by one brother, Thomas Ryba of Stafford Springs, CT; and one sister, Joan G. Hage of Amsterdam. Nephews, cousins and many special friends also survive Arlene.

A memorial service will be held at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, on Saturday April 21, 2012 at 12 o’clock noon.

A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:00

Cremation took place at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady

Barbara B. Snyder, 86, of Wesleyan Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Monday evening April 9, 2012 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam on August 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late J. Arthur and Ernestine Greeley Bleau.

Mrs. Snyder was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School; Class of 1942.

She retired as a secretary from the New York State Department of Civil Service in Albany, NY.

Mrs. Snyder was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a former member of the Columbiettes of Amsterdam and GAVAC.

Her husband, Richard G. Snyder to whom she was married on August 3, 1946, passed away on October 17, 1967. Mrs. Snyder is survived by two sons, Richard Snyder (Anne) of Rotterdam, NY and Charles P. Snyder of Mariaville, NY; eight grandchildren, Megan, Christina, Rosita, Joseph, Jessica, Danielle, Casandra and Evette Snyder, one daughter-in-law, Barbara Snyder of East Islip, LI, NY. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Barbara was also predeceased by her son, Paul T. Snyder in 1998, her brother, Robert J. Bleau and her daughter-in-law, Joan Snyder in 2002.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will be at St. Mary’ Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 16, 1912, she was the daughter of John F. and Catherine Folliard Moore.

Margaret attended St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam.

She was employed as a clerk at Roxy Dry Cleaners and for Neisner Brothers “Big N” both in Amsterdam.

Margaret was a former parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

She is survived by her niece, Patricia Payne of Latham, NY; great nephew, Michael Payne of Gloversville, NY; one great niece, Kathleen Boulet of Menands, NY; one great-great niece, Charlotte Boulet and two great-great nephews, Alexander and Jeffrey Boulet.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Friday morning at 9:15 at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Born in Amsterdam on June 2, 1952, he is the son of Dorothy Lewek Lachanski and the late Stanley Lachanski.

Bill received his education in the Amsterdam school system. He also attended Fulton Montgomery Community College and the State University of New York at Brockport, Brockport, NY; where he received his degree in Health Science.

Bill was employed by the State of New York as a Bureau Director of Quality Assurance in Albany, NY.

He loved horses, Saratoga Race Track and his family.

Bill was a former communicant of The Church of St. John the Baptist and most recently of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

Survivors include his mother,Dorothy Lewek Lachanski, his wife Ann Martuscello Lachanski, to whom he was married on October 20, 1985, two daughters, Jessica Lachanski of Guilderland, NY; and Abby Lachanski of Amsterdam, many nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers and sisters in-law.

Bill was predeceased by his father, Stanley Lachanski and his brother, Tom Lachanski.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.

Eileen M. Armstrong, 92, formerly of, Amsterdam, NY; and most recently of Catskill, NY; passed away Saturday afternoon, May 19, 2012 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY; on July 31, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Timothy and Anna Hanahan Keiley

Eileen received her education and graduated from St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam.

She was employed at St. Mary’s School of Nursing as a custodian and at St. Mary’s Institute as a kitchen aide.

Eileen was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Society.

Her husband Bernard Armstrong to whom she was married to in 1940, passed away in 1996.
Eileen is survived by her son, Timothy B. Armstrong (Rosemary) of Moneta, VA; her daughter, Teresa Armstrong Gustas (Peter) of Catskill, NY; two grandchildren, P.J. Gustas and Jessica Stellato both of New Milford, CT; and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Eileen was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Keiley and two sisters, Mary McKearn and Veronica Armstrong and her granddaughter, Lori Armstrong.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Stephen attended Liberty Day Treatment and was very interested in listening to music.

Stephen was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam, NY.

Stephen is survived by his mother Doris J. Lawyer and her companion John Morris of Johnstown, NY; his father, Charles Lawyer of Watervliet, NY; one brother, Tirrell Lawyer of Watervliet, one sister, Karen L. Lawyer of Johnstown, and two nephews, Tyler J. Lawyer and Chano J. Cross both of Johnstown.

Relatives and friend are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Friday morning June 1, 2012 at 9:15 at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Eduardo Figueroa, 19, of Clinton Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away heroically on May 30, 2012 attempting to save his brother at Erie Canal Lock 11 on the Mohawk River in Amsterdam.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on October 25, 1992, he was the son of Eduardo Molina and Leyda Figueroa.

Eduardo received his elementary education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Neil Hellman School at Parsons Center in Albany, NY.

Eduardo attended pre vocational programs, working in the sandwich shops at Price Chopper and the Family Dollar Stores in Albany, NY.

Eduardo is survived by his father, his mother and his caregiver and mentor, Wilfredo Mendez, one brother, Carlos Figueroa and one sister, Ashley Figueroa.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:00 P.M. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, with Pastor Louis Torres officiating.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam.

Calling hours are today from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service.

Daniel J. Petrosino, 83, of Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Friday morning June 1, 2012at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 13, 1928, he was a son of the late Joseph and Maria Boccio Petrosino.

Dan received his education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, where he was a celebrated basketball player and captain of the A.H. S. Basketball Team.

Dan was employed at General Electric for 5 years and then went to work for his brother as manager of Lou’s Supermarket in Amsterdam.

Dan was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam, NY.

Dan recently lost his wife, Wilma N Petrosino on March 25, 2012. They were married on June 30, 1951. Surviving are his children, Donna Borwhat (Larry) of Fort Johnson, Dale A. Petrosino of Amsterdam, NY, Daniel J. Petrosino (Patti) of Amsterdam, NY and Diane Bellinger of Ballston Lake, NY. Six grandchildren, Danielle Bach (Steve), Jay Borwhat (Jessica), Ashli Kerr, (Bryan), John Daniel Kerr, Jessica MacMeekin (Trevor) and C.J. Bellinger. Five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kaylee Borwhat, Collin, Aidan and Alexandra Wilma Kerr. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Dan was also predeceased by four brothers, Louis, John, Albert and Alphonso, three sisters, Antoinette Persico, Vera Gizara and Josephine Frollo.

Dan was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather. His strong work ethic and commitment to his family has been passed down to his loving children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning June 4, 2012 at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.

David H. Smitka, 67, of Fourth Avenue, Tribes Hill, NY; passed away Saturday evening June 2, 2012 at home.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 25, 1944, he was a son of the late William J. and Mary Margaret Slappy Smitka.

David received his education at St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam, Tribes Hill Elementary School and graduated from Fonda Fultonville High School in 1963.

David was employed in the Turbine Assembly Division at General Electric Company in Schenectady NY, retiring in 2002. He also drove part time for Montgomery County Veterans Service Agency.

David was a parishioner and communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, NY.

He was a member of the New York State Air National Guard in Scotia, NY for 12 years.
David was also a member of Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a firefighter, EMT for over 20 years, and held the rank of either Captain or Lieutenant of the Rescue Squad from 1976 to 1984. He established and directed the Tribes Hill Fire Department Explorer Post from 1982 to 1984. He was a Boy Scout Committeeman from 1988 to 1991 for Troop 34, Tribes Hill, NY. David was also a volunteer for Montgomery County Office for Aging from 2000 to the present and the Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc., in 1986.

David recently celebrated his 41st anniversary with his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Riley Smitka to whom he was married to on May 1 1971, Also surviving are one son James Francis Smitka (Priya) of Potomac Falls, VA; one daughter, Ann Riley Marrone (Nicholas) of Poughquag, NY; one brother, Richard Smitka (Georgiann) of Tribes Hill, NY; four granddaughters, Kiran Riley Smitka and Tara Elizabeth Smitka, Madelyn Danielle Marrone and Evelyn Jensen Marrone. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:15at the Riley Mortuary, Inc 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 10:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Third Avenue, Tribes Hill, NY.

Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. NY.
