Mr. Joseph F. Slovick, Jr; age 73, died Thursday morning, November 17, 2016 at home in Johnstown with his family at his side. He was born January 28, 1943 in Gloversville, the son of Joseph and Sylvia Schreckenberger Slovick. He was a 1961 graduate of Johnstown High School and 1964 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College. Joe was employed as a heavy equipment operator and gas mechanic at Niagara Mohawk and National Grid for 34 years until his retirement. Joe loved all kinds of auto racing, especially NASCAR and news from the local dirt tracks. He also enjoyed camping, bowling and tolerated golf. Joe had a love for all classic cars and loved watching the Barrett-Jackson auctions. He was a whiz at Jeopardy often amazing us with the things he knew. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed mowing his lawn. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Suzanne E. Joyce Slovick; three children: Sherry Walker (Todd) of Gloversville, Tracey Greco (Donald) of Tribes Hill and Joseph P. Slovick (Karolyn) of Gloversville; seven grandchildren: Becky Hager (James), Jason Tagliatela (Cassie), Christopher Tagliatela, Tyler Tagliatela, Frankilyn Greco, Joelle Greco, D.J. Greco and a grand-dog, Mollie Slovick; four great-grandchildren: Izzy, Lexi, Jackson and Easton. Joe also leaves behind his beloved dog, Mandie. He was predeceased by his parents. It was Joe’s wishes that there be no services. A celebration of his life will take place and will be announced in the near future. Cremation will take place at Parkview Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Joe during his illness.
