Thomas John Bochenek

Thomas John Bochenek, 69, of Gloversville passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016 at his home with his wife Valerie by his side. Born December 30, 1946 in Gloversville, he was the son of the late Theodore and Laura Berry Bochenek. Tom was a 1964 graduate of Gloversville High School. Following graduation Tom went on to proudly serve his country in the Navy from 1966-1969. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy he lived in Chicago, IL for some time where he worked for Howard Parlor Furniture Company. Tom attended FMCC where he received his Associates Degree in Business Administration. He worked for many years at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department retiring as an Investigator. Upon retirement Tom owned and operated Firlik Express Inc. in Gloversville for many years. Tom was a member of American Legion Post 337 in Broadalbin, VFW Post 2077 in Gloversville and served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Community Center for many years. He loved the outdoors and was the happiest when he was with his family at their camps on Caroga Lake and Tolmantown. Survivors include his wife of 44 years Valerie Russell Bochenek of Gloversville; sons Ethan Bochenek (Rona) of Manhattan, Travis Bochenek of Windham, NH and Alexei Bochenek of Los Angeles, CA; brothers Joseph Bochenek (Sarah) of Mobile, AL, Theodore Bochenek (Laura) of Scotia and Frederick Bochenek (Debbie) of Gloversville; grandchildren Bryce Bochenek, Reid Bochenek, Lily Bochenek and Omri Bochenek; his best pals, his dogs Charlie Chan and Oliver Stone. Tom is also survived by several nieces and nephews A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 11 A.M. at Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 E. Fulton Street, Gloversville with Suzanne Schermerhorn officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made in Tom’s memory to the Fulton County Regional Animal Shelter, 117 W. Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 E. Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
