Mr. Gerald D. Yost, age 80, of Gloversville, surrounded by his family and loved ones, passed unexpectedly January 10, 2016, at Albany Medical Center. Gerald was born August 25, 1935, in Mayfield, the son of Arthur and Mildred Sweet Yost. He was a graduate of Mayfield High School. He proudly served in Germany with the U.S. Army 24th Infantry Division and was later employed by the Gloversville Water Department for 30 years. He served on the Gloversville Water Board since 2003 and continued to do so up until his passing. He’s been retired for twenty years and has been a devoted, husband, father, friend and grandfather spending most of his time with his family. Affectionately known by his family and friends as Poppy, he will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous man. Gerald is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anna May Almy Yost; sons, Gerald of Westmoreland, NY, Richard (wife Patricia) of Long Island, NY, Raymond of Albany, NY, Mark (wife Sandy) of Gloversville, Heather Yost Ray (husband Chuck) of Rochester NY and Susan Yost Isabella (husband Jim) of Gloversville. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, Robert, Ben, Jessica, Jovanha (predeceased), Samantha, Jad, Joshua, Raechel, Nicholas, Ashley, Brittany, Jacob, Dylan, Christian, Ethan, Jarred, Anthony; by his brothers, John, Larry, Merle and Leland; sisters, Nancy Yost Waffle and Grace Yost Thompson. He was also predeceased by his brothers. Arthur Jr., Allan, Robert, Harold; and sisters, Jean Yost Whitehouse, Betty Yost Timmerman and Virginia Yost. In accordance with his wishes, Gerald will be cremated and a public service held on Friday, January 15, 2016, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101-2151.
