Evelyn M. Gieseler, 83, of Ellsworth Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Tuesday afternoon May 20, 2014 at home. Born in Gloversville, NY, on February 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Dwella and Minnie Blowers Knapp. Evelyn received her education in the Fonda Fultonville School System. Evelyn retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, where she worked as a secretary. She was also a secretary at Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam and at General Electric in Schenectady, NY. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Bernard F. Gieseler to whom she married March 17, 1976, her daughter, Susan Lynn LaConte (Joe), her dear granddaughter, Melissa Lasher, her dear great grandson, Tyrell Nathan Douglas, her special nieces, Judy, Juanita and Gina. Evelyn is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. Evelyn was also predeceased by three sisters, Marion Knapp Klena, Maria Knapp Paoline Hall and Elaine Knapp Therrien Mrazz, two brothers, Gerald and Burton Knapp and her foster parents, Herman and Elizabeth Sievert. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, 12010, with Pastor, Bonnie Orth officiating. Interment will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. Those wishing to follow in procession should be at the Riley Mortuary by 8:30 a.m. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Evelyn’s name may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY, 12010.
